It was definitely not in autumn and the only melody you could most certainly hear back then was the hammering of machine-guns. Yet a poem, Paul Verlaine’s “Chanson d’automne”, was broadcasted on the radio to alert the French resistance about the arrival of the allied in the summer of ’44.
